give your business your best - establishing a mindful morning routine

I’m a bit embarrassed to admit it, but when I wake up, the first thing I do is roll over, grab my phone, and start checking social media and the news.

For me, that is the WRONG CHOICE.

Why?

Because there are too many images, comments, and articles that assault my senses. I have no control over what kind of content is coming at me and therefore I have no control over my first thoughts, reactions, or emotions for the day. As you probably know, most of the stuff out there isn’t optimistic, kind, or hopeful so I end up starting my day frustrated, grumpy and stressed. YUCK!

If I’m starting my day that way, imagine how I might be handling challenges in my business or relationships. Or what kind of things will I be creating with that kind of mindset? it’s probably nothing uplifting or helpful to anyone and that’s the exact opposite of what I want to be.

So...enter change.

My phone now has a sticky note on it that screams “Don’t touch me!” which quickly reminds me that I have other things I need to be doing when I wake up. My choices that create my new routine give me the power to start my day with a peaceful mindset and a thankful heart.

Here’s what works for me

  • Take a walk, first thing - roll outta bed, hair askew, not even a drop of coffee in me) and do some deep breathing of that glorious morning air

  • List the things I’m grateful for

  • Gentle body movements and stretches

  • Now for the caffeine! Woop!

This routine takes no longer than about 30-45 minutes, which is what I would’ve been spending on my phone. The difference? I approach my day with an entirely different attitude. I’ve been doing this for almost 2 weeks, and it’s been so much better for me. I can feel a MASSIVE difference in my attitude and approach to situations.

feeling like you could revamp your mornings? Here are some ideas for a great morning routine!

  • get outside in the fresh air - practice deep breathing or meditation

remember, You and your business deserve the best you can give and it starts with a good morning routine.
