How to work less & get more done

I don’t know about you, but I’m a BUSY gal. Honestly, I’m a little TOO busy - meaning, I’d love to have a bit of whitespace in my world to think, create, or sit on my butt and do nothing.

If I had to guess, you’re probably in a similar boat. Most folks I talk to are living life like their hair is on fire and having melt downs under the weight of responsibilities and expectations. And that’s not a fun or free place to be.

So, lately, I’ve really had to evaluate my busyness and see if I can trim down my schedule and get rid of things that aren’t “life critical”.

Well, as I was going over my weeks and the long list of things I “have to do”, I found that there are a few areas in my life that I can refine or ask for help to manage. If you read that last part as “delegate to family members who have a bit more time on their hands” then you read that right.

Surprising to me, I discovered that I don’t have to be the one in control of everything. gasp*

Not only can I delegate out some shared household tasks, I can tighten up what I am currently choosing as life priorities. sometimes, I’m just going to have to say no to opportunities that come up.

I hate that I might be disappointing some folks who hold me to a certain expectation, but well, my mental sanity and need for whitespace trumps whatever they think they need from me.

So, given all my responsibilities with my home, fitness job, business coaching, and voiceover I have to be very choosy about what I do to garner success within each life priority.

So, how am I going to do that???

Well, I’m getting absolutely ruthless about how I spend my time.

Each task I take on must be productive

Before taking on a task, I have to ask myself: What is this doing for my - household, business, etc.

Am I building on something?

Will this task have a direct result?

What am I doing and WHY am I doing it?

There is often a great chasm between what I feel like I “should” do vs what actually needs to be done -(or what needs to be done right now). If the task ahead of me isn’t directly tied to a life priority, should I really be taking it on?

“Perfect” got tossed out the window

Bye, Felicia! I just don’t have time to make things “perfect”. Honestly, the idea of something being “perfect” is silly -(see my blog here.

So, when I audition, I only give myself 3-4 takes. I analyze the copy and do the best I can, but I’m not over here trying to tweak every little thing I think might be an imperfection.

Showing the real me

If you follow the DTH IG or TikTok, you know my reels are far from pristine. I usually don’t wear make-up, sometimes my hair is wet, and I’ve been caught rambling more than once. I’m not here to put on a show - I’m here to invest in YOU and help you build your business.

I want to share stories, experiences, and helpful tips. So, in order to do that, you’re just going to have to accept that I probably just finished teaching a workout class and went straight into recording something valuable for you.

Tune in to what brings me joy

I love sharing with people. I love teaching. I love building businesses. I love voice acting! These things bring me great joy and investing my time doing these things is never a waste to me.

There are things that may be more difficult for me, and that’s where I start to delegate to others. There are folks out there willing and ready to help you build your business. Examples are virtual assistants, social media managers, bookkeepers, editors, etc.

Invest your time where you shine and delegate other tasks.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we choose to spend those hours is entirely up to us. If we can refine our schedules, be more intentional in our work, and delegate where necessary, we’re setting ourselves up to work less, yet accomplish more. And I’m all about that.

Now I’m off to sit on my porch and sip some tea,

Christy
